There is a direct Air India service from JFK to Mumbai, painful commute if living in NJ but for those closer to JFK, this is the best flight they can have. The flight was recently launched, everyone has personal programming, Indian food, enough leg space etc. Surprisingly it is Air India! But then...

I still think, the USA is the best place for democracy loving people. Govt and its agencies try their best to be accountable to law. Now if you want our Immigration issue to be put before IRAQ in the Congress, I would think that is selfishness. I have colleagues whose sons are in IRAQ. For me their lives are more important than my GC. Now that does not mean we stop making our point to Congress.

PRECISELY My point. First it is IRAQ, then it will be the Presidential Elections then something else. The Government has NO time to question the USCIS and NO real motivation either.

When IV can force CIS to change thier stand and listen, we can surely take this guy to task. Please come up with some plan. This guy is poisoning the minds of the American public with "Cock and Bull" facts, it's time he is put in his rightful place.

Am using vonage for lnadline for long as well used their European calling service in past - voice quality is very good - and now to India as well (to land line and cell) - quality is very good ....

Does it work well with Home security systems Like BRINKS? How good is the call quality if you have DSL at home. I have DSL with 1.5 MBPS download. Thus the voice garbles when you are actively downloading on Internet.

    LETTER TEMPLATE #3

    <<DATE>>

    The Honorable George W. Bush
    President of the United States
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20500

    Dear Mr. President:

My name is <<FIRST NAME>> <<LAST NAME>> and I have been living as a tax-paying and law-abiding individual in the United States since <<YEAR>>. I work for <<COMPANY>> in <<CITY>> <<STATE>> as <<JOB TITLE>>. Although my employer intends for me to continue working permanently, the green card process so severely backlogged that I will wait another <<EXPECTED WAIT YEARS>> before becoming a permanent resident of the United States.

Waiting in this probationary limbo is really starting to affect the quality of my life. It is an unnecessary burden to keep renewing temporary visas year after year and face an element of risk every time I return from international travel; but the worst of all is that wait times are becoming longer and longer, sometimes 6-12 years, and I will be forced to start the entire process over again if I choose to accept a promotion anytime in between. The broken legal immigration system is badly in need of fixes.

Mr. President, your Domestic Policy Council has recognized the importance of employment-based immigration in the February 2006 report on the American Competitiveness Initiative which states:

"The President also recognizes that enabling the world's most talented and hardest-working individuals to put their skills to work for America will increase our entrepreneurship and our international competitiveness, and will net many high-paying jobs for all Americans. The United States benefits from our ability to attract and retain needed immigrant and non-immigrant students and workers, and it is important that America remains competitive in attracting talented foreign nationals."

I appeal to you, Mr. President, to facilitate the retention of the best and brightest from around the world by executing the following administrative fixes as an immediate interim measure:

    • Recapture administratively the unused visas for permanent residency to fulfill the congressional mandate of 140,000 green cards per year.

    • Revise the administrative definition of "same or similar" to allow slight additional job flexibility for legal immigrants awaiting adjudication of adjustment of status (I-485) petitions.

    • Allow filing of Adjustment of Status (Form I-485) when a visa number is not available.

    • Implement the existing interim rule to allow issuance of multi-year Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) and Advance Parole.

    • Allow visa revalidation in the United States.

    • Reinstate premium processing of Immigrant Petitions.

I am only one among over 500000 highly skilled immigrants represented by Immigration Voice, and we are all counting on you to give us this much needed breathing room while we wait in line to live our American dream.

Thank you very much for considering my requests.

    Yours Sincerely,

    <<NAME>>
    <<ADDRESS>>
    <<PHONE NUMBER>>

of all the smooth talk..cmon we all know the one time might power ruled the world.. so its not easy for them to get over with..well for those who dont like i always say..just boycott..but i know lots of them will still give in and take the pain...

the way i see..if indian airlines were upto the task.. we could have direct flights from all major cities in US..but then again how can I simply blame the British govt. for tormenting us..its the Indian govt. who can't sort this..either encourage big businesses to launch international flights with world class service..that's something which we have to wait!
how quick we are to blame the Indian Govt.......??

Continental has direct flights to Delhi and Mumbai from Newark, Jet flies from both JFK and Newark, Air India flies direct as well, American flies from Chicago direct.

Many Middle East airlines (Qatar, Emirates) fly from New York to their respective hubs in Middle East and then to multiple cities in India.

Aeroflot ( my parents had a great experience on the airline - good food, courteous service and good new boeing planes) flies to Moscow and then to India.

West Coast folks can fly via Singapore or HK or Malaysia........

With so many choices - why should we even bother to patronize the London airport - i have no idea.....

Though i have a GC and dont need a TV for london - i hate to patronize such unfriendly airport systems.

Immigration Security ChecksHow and Why the Process Works

    Background

All applicants for a U.S. immigration benefit are subject to criminal and national security background checks to ensure they are eligible for that benefit. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Federal agency that oversees immigration benefits, performs checks on every applicant, regardless of ethnicity, national origin or religion.

Since 2002, USCIS has increased the number and scope of relevant background checks, processing millions of security checks without incident. However, in some cases, USCIS customers and immigrant advocates have expressed frustration over delays in processing applications, noting that individual customers have waited a year or longer for the completion of their adjudication pending the outcome of security checks. While the percentage of applicants who find their cases delayed by pending background checks is relatively small, USCIS recognizes that for those affected individuals, the additional delay and uncertainty can cause great anxiety. Although USCIS cannot guarantee the prompt resolution of every case, we can assure the public that applicants are not singled out based on race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin.

USCIS strives to balance the need for timely, fair and accurate service with the need to ensure a high level of integrity in the decision-making process. This fact sheet outlines the framework of the immigration security check process, explaining its necessity, as well as factors contributing to delays in resolving pending cases.

    Why USCIS Conducts Security Checks

USCIS conducts security checks for all cases involving a petition or application for an immigration service or benefit. This is done both to enhance national security and ensure the integrity of the immigration process. USCIS is responsible for ensuring that our immigration system is not used as a vehicle to harm our nation or its citizens by screening out people who seek immigration benefits improperly or fraudulently. These security checks have yielded information about applicants involved in violent crimes, sex crimes, crimes against children, drug trafficking and individuals with known links to terrorism. These investigations require time, resources, and patience and USCIS recognizes that the process is slower for some customers than they would like. Because of that, USCIS is working closely with the FBI and other agencies to speed the background check process. However, USCIS will never grant an immigration service or benefit before the required security checks are completed regardless of how long those checks take.

    How Immigration Security Checks Work

To ensure that immigration benefits are given only to eligible applicants, USCIS adopted background security check procedures that address a wide range of possible risk factors. Different kinds of applications undergo different levels of scrutiny. USCIS normally uses the following three background check mechanisms but maintains the authority to conduct other background investigations as necessary:

The Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS) Name Check IBIS is a multi-agency effort with a central system that combines information from multiple agencies, databases and system interfaces to compile data relating to national security risks, public safety issues and other law enforcement concerns. USCIS can quickly check information from these multiple government agencies to determine if the information in the system affects the adjudication of the case. Results of an IBIS check are usually available immediately. In some cases, information found during an IBIS check will require further investigation. The IBIS check is not deemed completed until all eligibility issues arising from the initial system response are resolved.

FBI Fingerprint CheckFBI fingerprint checks are conducted for many applications. The FBI fingerprint check provides information relating to criminal background within the United States. Generally, the FBI forwards responses to USCIS within 24-48 hours. If there is a record match, the FBI forwards an electronic copy of the criminal history (RAP sheet) to USCIS. At that point, a USCIS adjudicator reviews the information to determine what effect it may have on eligibility for the benefit. Although the vast majority of inquiries yield no record or match, about 10 percent do uncover criminal history (including immigration violations). In cases involving arrests or charges without disposition, USCIS requires the applicant to provide court certified evidence of the disposition. Customers with prior arrests should provide complete information and certified disposition records at the time of filing to avoid adjudication delays or denial resulting from misrepresentation about criminal history. Even expunged or vacated convictions must be reported for immigration purposes.

FBI Name ChecksFBI name checks are also required for many applications. The FBI name check is totally different from the FBI fingerprint check. The records maintained in the FBI name check process consist of administrative, applicant, criminal, personnel and other files compiled by law enforcement. Initial responses to this check generally take about two weeks. In about 80 percent of the cases, no match is found. Of the remaining 20 percent, most are resolved within six months. Less than one percent of cases subject to an FBI name check remain pending longer than six months. Some of these cases involve complex, highly sensitive information and cannot be resolved quickly. Even after FBI has provided an initial response to USCIS concerning a match, the name check is not complete until full information is obtained and eligibility issues arising from it are resolved.

For most applicants, the process outlined above allows USCIS to quickly determine if there are criminal or security related issues in the applicants background that affect eligibility for immigration benefits. Most cases proceed forward without incident. However, due to both the sheer volume of security checks USCIS conducts, and the need to ensure that each applicant is thoroughly screened, some delays on individual applications are inevitable. Background checks may still be considered pending when either the FBI or relevant agency has not provided the final response to the background check or when the FBI or agency has provided a response, but the response requires further investigation or review by the agency or USCIS. Resolving pending cases is time-consuming and labor-intensive; some cases legitimately take months or even several years to resolve. Every USCIS District Office performs regular reviews of the pending caseload to determine when cases have cleared and are ready to be decided. USCIS does not share information about the records match or the nature or status of any investigation with applicants or their representatives.

I thought he might say something stupid about the Hindu Prayer disruption in Senate yesterday. However he didn't bring it up. But the way it's been going his "faux pas" (anti-Italian remarks during Italian parade in Little Italy, anti-Latino, anti-Indian and anti-Chinese remarks such as "socio-ethnic interest groups", "foriegn" and "cheap labor", "Communist China" and ofcourse the 7000 lepers in 3 years...) are all building up and sooner or later something will give.
I don't think anything would give as a big part of america can relate to all this. At the most CNN may fire him but a number of other stations would be ready to pick him up. Last thing a broadcaster wants is for people to ignore him/her. Thanks to us that is not going to be a problem for Dear Lou, and so a number of stations would love to have him just for that.

    Hi,

I'm in trouble situation, maybe somebody can give advice.
I can file I-485(Eb3 March 2005). But my wife & daugther basically out of status. Their H4 visas were not extended.
Before june bulletin I was thinking to go back home with my daughter (she is under 18) and try to get visa in consulate. It was attorney advice. Also he suggest to file for an asylym for my wife.
Now I'm going to file I-485 for whole family regardless what attorney will tell me.
Is it good idea to go directly to uscis office and ask them (can I file)?
And what will happen if their apps gets denied?

    Any ideas?

I think in your case the best thing is to go out of country with your wife and daughter, get their passports stamped, reenter us and apply 485 with the new I-94.

This is what I think, but I am no expert...
